You have Cancer
March 12, 2009
| My induction into the tribe came with the words, “You have cancer.” I have since found that this tribe is filled with wonderful people on similar, yet different journeys. My induction in late December brought sudden clarity to my life. The mundane issues that clutter my days were instantly swept away. |
| |
| Since then I have listened carefully to wise sages of this community who have helped prepare me for this journey. Their words include: |
| |
 |
The best preparations for this journey are good life habits that are already in practice - responding daily to the calling of God. The calling is different now only in situation and circumstance. |
 |
Turn to the only lasting source of comfort, the Spirit of God, who offers, in times such as these, solace through His Word... The name of the Lord is a strong tower. (Proverbs 18:10 NIV) |
 |
Cancer can be one of the best ways to find “the deep, silent and strong river of joy that is so comforting because it is God’s joy.” Find this river and bathe deeply in it. |

| Having just joined the tribe and having just begun to listen to the stories and wisdom of those who have preceded me, I covet your prayers for the courage, wisdom and grace to bring Glory to God in all things as I continue to learn lessons on the journey. |
| |
| Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice O earth; burst into song O mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones. (Isaiah 49:13 NIV) |

Sharing the journey
with you,

P.S. I want you to know that I recently received a diagnosis of prostate cancer. It appears to be contained to a small area and my doctors tell me it is a minimally aggressive type. I will be operated on April 13th in Philadelphia and thus will be able to keep my upcoming International Saline training commitment in Singapore. Many of you have prayed for the Snyder family and the work of International Health Services over the many years of our ministry journey. My family and I covet your prayers for protection and provision during the surgery and throughout my recovery. Thank you.
