This will be the last lesson of 2009. Celebrating the Christmas season, may you know the presence of the Savior and the joy of the resurrection as we journey into the year 2010.

Not As Expected!

December 17, 2009

In late September, a grandson was born to friends.  The birth was not as expected.  Kyren was born very prematurely, weighing 1 pound 8 ounces. His life has lain in the balance since he was born.  Kyren’s mother blogs regularly to keep us updated on his miraculous growth and maturation – sharing the lessons God has taught her through Kyren’s life and struggles.

The birth of a child does not always happen as we plan – ask Zechariah, father of John the Baprtist (Luke 1:5-25;35-45;57-66).  An angel told Zechariah that his prayers were to be answered - a child would be born even in his advanced age.  Because he doubted, God silenced Zechariah, making him unable to speak for the duration of pregnancy – not what he expected!

Even a young Jewish girl who found favor with God discovered blessings in the unexpected. Her unplanned pregnancy led to much misunderstanding and scorn. In the face of the unexpected from God, Mary questioned God.

How will this be since I am a virgin? (Luke 1:34 NIV)

But she quickly moved to an attitude of acceptance and submission to God’s plans for her.

May it be to me as you have said! (Luke 1:38)

Much of life is “not as expected” even among those who have found favor in the eyes of God. Will you join me in responding as Mary did?

Sharing the journey with you,
